Giving Weight Lifting a Try

Ever been at a hotel, wondering what kind of workout you could squeeze in? The hotel room isn’t quite comfortable enough for a Pilates session (the carpet has some questionable stains), and you’d rather not attempt your series of five in the hotel gym because its funky smell and constant in and outs of guests simply doesn’t suite your Pilates vibe.

What to do? Roaming around in the gym, you spot hand weights in the corner. Sweet! You remember you have a subscription to Saran Pilates and have access to the weight lifting videos. Let’s give them a try, you think.

Fast forward thirty days, you’re back home and still weight lifting once or twice a week! You enjoy the workout’s challenges and have already started to witness the benefits. It’s the perfect complement to your Pilates practice as it helps build muscles in a more productive way. You’re bringing your Pilates knowledge to each of your weight lifting sessions to help with form so your joints stay happy. All in all, you’re thankful for the new routine and will definitely tell your friend Janice to give it a try next time she finds herself in a hotel workout pickle.

Here are the benefits of lifting weights:

  • Improves bone density

  • Builds muscle mass (especially useful for 30-yr-olds and up as we tend to loose muscle mass as we age)

  • Improves your cardiovascular health factors, like your blood pressure

  • Helps improve athletic performance (strength, power, endurance)

Here’s the thing about lifting weights, you don’t have to lift super heavy. Start with weights that feel challenging enough but doable, and if you start a set and get tired half way through your reps, just switch to some lighter hand weights. We’re not looking to make our forehead vein pop out, we’re just after a challenge we can breathe through and come out feeling strong and good about ourselves. At least, that’s what the Saran Pilates weight lifting workouts are all about.
